Vancouver Island Brewing in Victoria, McCrea's Welding in Campbell River and Creative Salmon in Tofino all received awards earlier this month for stellar safety records at the annual Safety Pinnacle Awards Gala in Chilliwack on June 6.

“Often the courage and efforts of those who prioritize safety go unnoticed,”  Wayne Arondus of the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC said in a news release. “In the news, more often we see the impact of work-related accidents — but these awards and this event connect and support our thriving manufacturing industries in the work that they are doing every day to protect people.”

The awards are administered by the Safety Alliance and celebrate companies for health and safety related achievements, commitment and continuous improvement.

Vancouver Island Brewing won the Joint Health and Safety Committee Excellence Award for their involvement and commitment to everyday safety practices.

McCrea's Welding's owner Brent McCrea earned the top award at the gala, the Soaring Eagle Leadership Award for dedication to safety both at his company and in his community.

Creative Salmon was given Topaz and Saphire Safety Pinnacle Awards for achieving certification in WorkSafeBC's Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence.
