Man suffers life-threatening injuries after assault in Vancouver Island park

A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was assaulted in Goldstream Provincial Park.

West Shore RCMP say they responded to reports of the incident Thursday (Jan. 22), shortly after 4 p.m.

Witnesses found the man in Goldstream Park near the 1100 block of Finlayson Arm Rd. in Langford, said a RCMP news release.

West Shore RCMP Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services also attended the scene.

No arrests have been made. Police believe this was a targeted incident, and there is no suggestion of any ongoing risk to the public at this time.

An investigation conducted by West Shore RCMP Serious Crimes Unit is ongoing and no further details can be released at this time.

“Investigators are working diligently on this investigation and would like to thank witnesses who stopped and provided first aid on scene,” says Cpl. Meghan Groulx of the West Shore Serious Crime Unit.

Police are asking for anybody who may have dash camera footage in the area of the Trans-Canada Highway at Goldstream Park or on Finlayson Arm Road on Jan. 22, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to call at 250-474-2264.
