In loving memory ~
Our beloved Derek Arnet passed away on November 10th after a brave battle with cancer. Derek is survived by his wife Andrea, his children Katie and Jacob, and his brothers Jeffrey and Darcy.
Derek was born in Tofino on September 14th, 1958. His father took him fishing as a young boy in Clayoquot Sound, which inspired an amazing career on the water, including as a Coast Guard on an ice breaker, valued deckhand, fish buyer, geoduck tender, and of course his favourite career, oyster farming. Derek enjoyed all outdoor activities, including hunting, snowmobiling, paddleboarding, and gardening, and he walked many, many miles daily on Chesterman Beach.
Derek walked through his life with so much kindness, a heart of gold, and a genuine and robust love for the West Coast. Especially the beautiful briny sea and beaches that surround Tofino and, most of all, his family and friends. We will all truly miss his warm welcomes, his patience, his kindness, and all the wonderful dinners he cooked! We invite you to celebrate his life with us in the spring, where we can gather together outdoors and remember our beloved friend, father, and husband.
